Waterproof Transparent Post-Surgical Wound Dressing
Post-surgical wound protection requires a dressing that keeps the incision site clean and dry while allowing monitoring of the healing process without removal. Smith & Nephew Opsite Post-Op combines a transparent waterproof film with an integrated absorbent wound pad to provide complete post-surgical dressing function in a single product — protection, absorbency, and visibility in one application.
The Opsite Post-Op consists of a central absorbent wound pad surrounded by a Tegaderm-like transparent film border that adheres to the surrounding skin. The pad handles initial surgical site drainage while the film barrier provides waterproof protection. The transparent film allows wound monitoring without disturbing the dressing, reducing the frequency of dressing changes needed in the early post-surgical period.
Key Features
- Integrated absorbent pad — manages initial post-surgical drainage
- Transparent waterproof film border — monitors incision without removal
- Waterproof protection — bathing-safe for most cleaning protocols
- Self-adhesive border — no additional tape required
- Available in 3 sizes: 9.5 x 8.5 cm, 15.5 x 8.5 cm, and 25 x 10 cm
- 20 dressings per box — multi-patient clinic supply
Best Use Cases
Opsite Post-Op is ideal for: covering sutured incision sites post-operatively, routine spay/neuter incision coverage, orthopaedic surgery wound sites, and any clean surgical wound requiring 3-5 day primary dressing coverage. It is not appropriate for wounds with heavy exudate — the absorbent pad capacity is limited and saturation will compromise the border seal.
Supplement Advisor's Note
The transparent film border must be applied to completely dry, clean skin for reliable adhesion. Apply with the backing papers in place, then gradually peel away as you smooth each section of the film border onto the skin. Avoid over-stretching the film during application — this can cause edge lifting and premature dressing failure. Change when the pad centre becomes saturated, when the film edges lift, or at 5-7 day intervals regardless of appearance.
