Orleans Community Pharmacy ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of your personal and personal health information. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your rights. It applies to orleansrx.ca and to services provided at our pharmacy located at 2746 St-Joseph Blvd, Unit 100, Orléans, ON K1C 1G5. If there is a conflict between our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy, this Privacy Policy controls with respect to how your personal information is collected, used, and disclosed.
Our commitment under PHIPA
As a pharmacy accredited by the Ontario College of Pharmacists (Accreditation #308803), we collect, use, store, and disclose your personal health information in accordance with the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA) and all applicable privacy legislation. A licensed pharmacist is available for consultation during all posted operating hours. Our Designated Manager, Dumitru Musteata, RPh, oversees compliance with these obligations.
Information we collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:
- Personal health information — prescriptions, medication history, allergies, health conditions, and information provided by you or your prescriber for the purpose of dispensing, compounding, immunization, minor-ailment assessment, MedsCheck, or other pharmacy services.
- Identification and contact information — name, date of birth, address, phone number, email, and health card or insurance details.
- Transaction information — products purchased, order history, and payment details processed through our secure payment provider.
- Website information — when you browse orleansrx.ca, our platform (Shopify) automatically collects standard technical data such as IP address, device and browser type, and pages visited, through cookies and similar technologies.
How we use your information
We use your information only for purposes you would reasonably expect, including to:
- Dispense, compound, and deliver your medications and provide pharmacy services;
- Assess and prescribe for minor ailments and administer immunizations where authorized;
- Communicate with you about your prescriptions, orders, and appointments (including text or phone notifications when an order is ready);
- Coordinate care with your prescriber, other healthcare providers, and your drug-insurance plan;
- Process payments and fulfill online orders;
- Meet our legal, regulatory, and professional obligations.
How we protect your information
We maintain physical, technical, and administrative safeguards to protect your information against loss, theft, and unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. Access to personal health information is limited to staff who need it to provide your care. Online transactions are encrypted, and prescription transfers and uploads are handled through a secure portal rather than ordinary email or web forms. How long we keep your information depends on the purpose: personal health information is retained for the period required by Ontario pharmacy regulations and professional standards, and other information is kept as needed to maintain your account, provide the Services, meet legal obligations, and resolve disputes.
Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information, and we never use your personal health information for advertising. We disclose personal health information only as permitted or required by law — for example, to your prescriber or circle of care, to your insurer for claims adjudication, or where required by a regulatory body or court. Service providers who process information on our behalf (such as our pharmacy software, e-commerce platform, and payment processor) are bound to protect it.
Cookies, analytics, and marketing
Our website uses cookies to keep the store working, remember your preferences, and understand how the site is used. We may use analytics and advertising services that collect standard website-usage data (such as pages visited and device information) through cookies and similar technologies; this never includes your personal health information. Most browsers let you remove or block cookies through their settings, though doing so may affect how parts of the site work. If you receive marketing emails from us, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in the message; we may still send you non-promotional messages about your account or orders.
How Shopify processes your information
Our online store is hosted and powered by Shopify, which collects and processes information about your use of the store in order to provide and improve the Services. Information you submit through the store is transmitted to Shopify and to service providers that may be located outside Canada. Shopify acts as our service provider for this purpose and is contractually required to protect your information. You can review Shopify’s privacy practices and exercise the choices available to you at https://privacy.shopify.com/en.
International processing
Some of our service providers, including Shopify and our payment processor, may store or process your information outside Canada. Where information is processed internationally, we use providers that are contractually required to protect it to a comparable standard. Your personal health information continues to be handled in accordance with PHIPA.
A note on online messages
Please do not include personal health details in our website contact form or by email, as these channels are not intended for sensitive health information. For any prescription or health matter, please call us at 613-824-3111 or use our secure prescription portal.
Children’s information
Our online store is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children online. Where we provide pharmacy services to a minor, we do so through their parent, guardian, or substitute decision-maker as appropriate.
Your rights
You have the right to access your personal health information, to request a correction, and to ask questions about how it is handled. To make a request or raise a concern, contact our Designated Manager at 613-824-3111 or contact@orleansrx.ca. We may need to verify your identity before responding, and you may authorize an agent to make a request on your behalf with proof of authorization. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always posted on this page.
