Vitamin D3 deficiency is increasingly recognized in companion animals - particularly dogs and cats with limited outdoor exposure, those on home-prepared or grain-free diets, and patients with malabsorptive conditions. Unlike humans, dogs and cats synthesize very little D3 from sunlight and rely almost entirely on dietary sources, making supplementation important where intake may be insufficient. Rx D3 Forte is part of the professional Rx Vitamins line distributed by MedVant in Canada. 60 ml.
Rx D3 Forte delivers 12.5 mcg (500 IU) of cholecalciferol per dose - the most bioavailable form of D3 - in a concentrated liquid that allows flexible dosing and mixes easily into food. Vitamin D3 supports calcium metabolism, immune function, cardiovascular health, and insulin sensitivity, and D3 status has emerged as a prognostic marker in dogs with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and chronic kidney disease (CKD). The Forte designation indicates a higher concentration than standard Rx D3, giving more dosing flexibility for larger patients or significant deficiency.
Key ingredients: cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) 12.5 mcg per mL, in a medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil base that enhances fat-soluble vitamin absorption.
Directions: dose as directed by your veterinarian based on body weight and serum 25(OH)D levels where available. Add to food at each meal and shake well. Refrigerate after opening. Do not exceed the recommended dose without veterinary guidance - vitamin D3 is fat-soluble and accumulates in tissue, and the therapeutic window is narrow, particularly in cats. Serum levels typically rise within 4-6 weeks of consistent supplementation.
