Professional Elastic Adhesive Bandage for Firm Support
Elastic adhesive bandages (EABs) occupy a unique position in veterinary wound care — providing both the conformability of a cohesive bandage and the direct skin adhesion of a tape, creating a firm, supportive outer bandage layer that resists slippage under heavy activity. BSN Medical Tensoplast is one of the most trusted EABs in veterinary medicine, offering consistent extensibility and strong adhesion for demanding wound care and orthopaedic support applications.
Tensoplast's woven cotton-elastic backing provides controlled extensibility — it stretches with the patient's movement but returns to its original tension, maintaining consistent compression without the progressive loosening seen with purely elastic products. The zinc oxide-based adhesive provides excellent adhesion to both skin and fur in the standard formula, with a latex-free (LF) version available for sensitive patients.
Key Features
- Elastic adhesive construction — combines conformability with direct adhesion
- Controlled extensibility prevents over-tightening and maintains compression
- Available in standard and latex-free (LF) formulations
- Multiple width options: 2.5 cm, 5 cm, 7.5 cm, and 10 cm
- Woven cotton-elastic backing — breathable and durable
- Used in veterinary clinics for orthopaedic and wound support applications
Standard vs Latex-Free (LF)
The standard Tensoplast formula uses a zinc oxide adhesive that provides outstanding hold on skin and fur. The LF (Latex-Free) formula removes latex from both the backing and adhesive for patients with documented latex sensitivity. Both versions provide equivalent clinical performance — choose based on patient sensitivity status.
Supplement Advisor's Note
Elastic adhesive bandages apply significant compression — always apply with substantially less tension than you think is necessary, especially around limbs. A good rule: if you're applying it snugly, you're probably applying it too tightly. Check the toes or extremities below the bandage after 30 minutes for swelling, coldness, or paresthesia. EABs are not appropriate for open wounds or infected wound sites — they are an outer support layer only.
Frequently Asked Questions
What sizes are available?
Standard: 2.5 cm, 5 cm, and 7.5 cm widths. LF: 5 cm, 7.5 cm, and 10 cm widths.
Is LF latex-free throughout?
Yes — the LF designation means the backing and adhesive are both latex-free.
Can I use Tensoplast directly on fur?
For best adhesion and comfortable removal, clip fur at the application site. On shaved skin, adhesion is excellent.
